MY STORY & PHILOSOPHY
My ceramic art works can be utilitarian or completely decorative. Hand building skills highlight innovative design approaches in clay. Wheel-thrown works are usually altered and rarely echo traditional ceramic techniques.
Working with stoneware and porcelain infused clays from North Carolina and other areas from across the US ensures that works are sturdy and useable. A variety of glazes in unique color combinations are intended to enhance the design and yet are food, dishwasher, and microwave safe.
Initially, I was inspired by the heritage of traditional potters in Seagrove and especially the experience of working with influential teachers at Penland(NC) School of Crafts, Cary Art Center, and Bobbie Thomas at Thomas Pottery in Seagrove. I also have an interest in creating works that have relevance to Native American history and prehistoric Peruvian ceramics. From trinket pieces to larger artworks and functional teapots, pitchers, bowls, mugs, and plates, I believe my style is unique and recognizable.
